Suitable Substrates and Substrates Preparation

Suitable Interior Substrates

When properly prepared, suitable substrates include:

  • Concrete
  • Marble and terrazzo
  • Metal
  • Plywood - APA standard underlayment grade or better
  • Multiply Underlayment
  • Fiber-cement underlayment
  • Portland cement based underlayment
  • Well bonded, smooth, wax-free, existing single layer non-cushioned resilient flooring.
  • Radiant heated subfloors [surface temperature does not exceed 85°F (29°C)].

Substrate Preparation

  • Subfloor should be structurally sound, clean, dry and level. Remove all grease, sealers, curing compounds, loose paint, dirt, etc. Nail down any loose edges or areas of subfloor and sand smooth all raised edges. Fill cracks or depressions in floor with a suitable TEC patching compound. Sand smooth and vacuum to remove dust. Over hardwood floors or wood parquet, the installation of plywood or fiber-cement underlayment is required.
  • Plywood should be installed according to American Plywood Association guidelines. Plywood subfloor surfaces should be well nailed at all edges and through center.
  • All concrete substrates must be tested for moisture and pH prior to flooring installation. Install flooring with TEC Releasable Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive over concrete with a moisture vapor emission rate up to 10 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. (4.54 kg/93 m²) per 24 hours when tested in accordance with ASTM F1869 or up to 90% RH when tested in accordance with ASTM F2170. For concrete with greater moisture levels, treat the concrete with TEC LiquiDam™ Penetrating Moisture Vapor Barrier.  Test for pH in accordance with ASTM F710. Range of 7-9 is required.
Limitations Information
  • Do not use where hydrostatic pressure, excessive moisture or alkali is present.
  • New concrete should be allowed to cure a minimum of 60-90 days prior to installation.
  • Do not use when temperature is below 60°F (15°C).
  • Not recommended for installation over cushion-backed or unprepared embossed sheetgoods.
  • Freeze/thaw stable to 10°F (-12°C) for a minimum of 5 cycles. If frozen, slowly bring to room temperature and stir before using.
Installation Instructions

Application

For best results, flooring material, room and adhesive should be kept at a minimum of 70°F (21°C) for 48 hours before and 24 hours after installation. Refer to flooring manufacturers installation guidelines for proper application instructions, including trowel size and approximate coverage. TEC Releasable Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive has an approximate working time of 1-24 hours, depending on trowel size, floor porosity, temperature and humidity. Apply adhesive and allow to dry to a clear, transparent film - normally 1 to 2 hours before applying floor covering. However, tiles may be installed up to 24 hours after adhesive becomes dry. Drying time will vary depending upon the temperature and humidity. To insure releasable properties, adhesive film should dry clear prior to installation. Keep the adhesive film free of dust and dirt.

Clean-up

Remove wet adhesive with a water dampened cloth. Dried adhesive can be removed with acetone.
