UltraShield HY 17 is suitable for both interior and exterior applications for use as a Waterproofing and Protective coating of the following structures:
- Exposed roofs both flat and sloped
- Terraces, balconies, domes and patios
- Metal profile roofs and asbestos roofs
- Corrugated metal sheets and aluminum sandwich panels
- Wet areas such as toilets, kitchens and public showers
- Vertical & Horizontal exposed concrete surfaces
- Application Procedure
Surface Preparation: The substrate on which the coating will be applied has to be cleaned thoroughly of all contaminants which may affect the adhesion. This can be done by grit blasting or at least using a wire brush rigorously. All major repair works needs to be carried out with a suitable repair material prior to the application.
Priming: UltraShield HY 17 can be applied directly onto the concrete surface. If the surface is highly porous, a primer coat is required, using a brush or roller to seal the pores and stabilize the surface by diluting UltraShield HY 17 with water (1:1 ratio). This will help in boosting adhesion for the top coat. Primer application should be done at a coverage rate of 5m2/l. Allow the primer to become dry prior to the application of the top coat.
Mixing: To ensure a homogenous mix, it is recommended to mix the contents of the pail prior to the application, to remove any sediments which may have occurred during storage. A paddle mixer can be used for mixing.
Application: Apply each coat of UltraShield HY 17 at a coverage rate of 0.85 kg/m2 to attain a Dry Film Thickness of 0.4mm. A total of 0.8mm thickness will be achieved in two coats.
For best results, apply the coating with a brush or a roller. Corners and joints shall be treated with a fibre mesh to provide added strength to the applied coating. This mesh shall be applied immediately on the 1st coat whilst it is still wet. The second coat should be applied cross wise after the first coat dries off completely, provide a re-coat interval of around 6 hours.Curing: The coating shall be cured fully for 7 days to achieve its full mechanical properties, after which it can be put to use.
