- Recommended Applications
This product is very well suited for manual, press and vacuum lamination for the manufacturing of all kind of interior trim parts.
- Suitable Substrates
- PVC-foils, TPO-foils, genuine leather, artificial leather, carpet or textiles to core substrates such as ABS, PC, PCABS, SMC, pre-treated olefins, polyester, some metallic substrates and wood fiber based materials.
- For the bonding of genuine leather, artificial leather and spacer fabrics a double side adhesive application on the laminate and on the carrier is necessary to achieve the maximum bonding performance.
- For foil applications, a single side adhesive application on the carrier is sufficient
- Application Information
Surface preparation:
- Surfaces must be clean, free from dust, fatty substances and release agents.
- The surface tension of the substrates which shall be bonded should be higher than 40 mN/m.
- Recommended working temperature: between +15°C and +25°C.
Mixing ratio:
- Component A = 100 parts by weight
- Component B = 5,5 parts by weight
- Component B must be added homogeneously and without foaming during agitation using a mechanical mixing equipment into component A.
Processing time / pot life:
- To be processed within 8 hours at 20°C material temperature after adding the hardener (pot life).
- Higher temperatures decrease the pot life, i.e.
- 4 hours at 30°C. After the adhesive is applied on the different substrates and dried according to our recommendations the open time of the adhesive is 4- 8h depending on the ambient conditions and on the activation parameters.
Application - Equipment:
- Equipment, containers, hoses, etc. which come into contact with thermonex™ must be of corrosion resistant material (i.e. stainless steel 1.4541 or 1.4571 or plastic) to avoid coagulation.
- Any contact with nonferrous metals (like hoses, sealing rings, filter bodies, etc.) must be avoided in any case.
- The adhesive can be applied by spraying out of a pressure pot or with automated mixing systems.
- The use of HVLP spray guns minimizes overspray. Also roller coating is possible as an application system.
- All thermonex™ hardener (B component) react with water to carbon dioxide and insoluble urea.
- Therefore all containers must be always kept tightly sealed.
- Penetration of water in any form must be avoided (like moist air, moist containers).
- Formation of carbon dioxide can result in dangerous increase of pressure.
Drying temperature:
- Recommended maximum drying temperature is 45°C in a ventilated oven for approx. 10 - 20 minutes (depending on the part size and coating weight).
- Drying with dry air (< 10% rel. humidity) leads to a faster and very gentle drying process.
- During the drying process, the humidity in the drying channel increases strongly.
- The excessive moisture content must be reduced either by fresh air supply or by drying out physically.
- The adhesive film must be completely dry before lamination (recommended remaining humidity <10%).
Caution:
- The drying time is influenced by the absorbency of the surface, drying temperature, coating weight, air humidity etc. and needs to be checked under real life conditions.
Bonding:
- The recommended minimum activation temperature in the bond line is 55°C.
- This 2-component adhesive system attains its final adhesive properties, e.g. heat resistance, final strength etc. after 5 days after bonding.
- Cleaning Information
- Liquid adhesive should be cleaned immediately after end of shift using water.
- For automated spraying systems special cleaners are available for the cleaning of the hardener pipe system.
Caution:
- Do not add any solvents to the adhesive and do not use hot water for cleaning.
- Dry adhesive residue must be either removed mechanically or with the appropriate solvent.
