Cleaning Information

Use fresh water to clean equipment before product dries.
Dry product may be removed with undiluted pine oil or citrus-based cleaners or with nonflammable chlorinated solvents.

Limitations

.Surface must be clean, dry and free of wax, grease, oil, dirt and other surface contaminants before the product is applied.
Water-based products may corrode carbon steel spray equipment.
Corrosion resistant pumps and fittings are suggested.
For interior use only and not recommended for exterior applications exposed to sunlight.
Coating may yellow when exposed to uv light.
This product does not protect users or others against bacteria, viruses, germs or other disease organisms.
It does not take the place of normal cleaning & disinfecting procedures.
*coating may appear milky when applied too thick or when applied over dark surfaces. It is not intended as an esthetic coating. If concerned or on visible surfaces, always test on intended substrates to ensure the final appearance meets expectations.
Do not dilute.
Stir well before using.

Preparation and Application Information

Material preparation

Stir well.
Do not thin.
Apply only to clean, dry surfaces.
Ensure that all surfaces are free of all wax, grease, oil, dirt, rust, mold and other surface contaminants.
Weathered wood substrates need to be sanded down to a sound surface.
On painted surfaces, remove all flaking, loose or chalking material.
Sand all glossy painted surfaces using 220-grit sandpaper to roughen the entire area.

Application

Apply evenly to wooden surfaces at the rate of 250 – 450 sq. Ft./gal. (6.1 – 11.0 m2 /l) until a uniform film remains on the surface.
It can be used at higher coverages on hard, non-porous surfaces of up to 600 sq. Ft./gal. (14.7 m2 /l) such as tile, metal or finished concrete.
Spraying or brushing will give the smoothest surfaces.
For optimum performance, maintain uniform recommended coverage.
To assure the appearance meets expectations, apply product to a small test area prior to complete application.
Take precautions not to apply too heavy if a milky white appearance is objectionable.
Not recommended for use on floors in high traffic areas.

Spray Equipment

Foster® sheer defense™(40-51) can be applied with virtually any type of airless spray equipment on the market today.
Reversible cleaning 0.015” – 0.017” spray tips are recommended for optimum application.
Average viscosity range is 1,200 – 1,800 cps.
Important
- When applying sheer defensetm, proper personal protective equipment must be used.
- Necessary equipment and clothing are the same as would be used when applying other water-based paints or coatings.
- Ensure that the application area is well ventilated during application to avoid buildup of vapors.
- Appropriate respiratory protection must be used when applying by airless spray.
- Use of a respirator with organic vapor cartridges is suggested if adequate ventilation cannot be achieved.
- After application of sheer defensetm, continue to ventilate the area to ensure proper drying of the coating and to exhaust odors.
- Ventilation should be continued until the odor is reduced to an acceptable level for building occupants.
