Foster® Chil-Grip™ Adhesive CP-124

1 of 92 products in this brand
Foster® Chil-Grip™ Adhesive CP-124 is a fast-tacking, flammable solvent-based elastomeric adhesive. It's designed for application using low-pressure spray equipment. When sprayed, it forms adhesive "buds" that effectively bond to porous, fibrous insulation surfaces, creating a strong bond with high coverage.

Product Type: Solventborne Adhesive

Application Area: AC Ducts, Furnace

Compatible Substrates & Surfaces: Cardboards, Cork, Paper

Application Method: Brush, Roller, Spray

Features: Cost Effective, Fire-Resistant, Good Bonding Strength, No Clogging, Solvent-Based, Sprayable, Tacky

Uses
  • CP-124 adhesive is used to bond lightweight insulation materials to duct work and in equipment such as air conditioners and furnaces.
  • CP-124 adhesive is also used to bond such porous and lightweight materials as cork, cardboard and paper.
Suggested Specifications

Duct Lining Insulation:

  • All fibrous glass (or other) insulation shall be applied with CP-124 Adhesive.
  • The adhesive shall be spray-applied to the ductwork at a maximum coverage of 400 square feet per gallon (9.8 m2 /liter) and full coverage shall be given to the metal.

Notes to Specifying Engineer:

  • There are considerable forces placed on the lining materials in lined ducts.
  • Since an adhesive has no better strength than the materials it is adhering, and since most insulations such as fibrous glass tend to delaminate, it is usually desirable to also specify the use of welded pins or adhered clips and retaining washers as mechanical adjuncts to the adhesive.
  • These fasteners are usually spaced on 18 - 24" (45 - 60 cm) centers.
  • Allow CP-124 to dry solvent-free before installing weld pins.
Preparation and Application Information

Use of Material:

  • For optimum storage conditions, CP-124 adhesive should be stored at 55°F to 80°F.
  • Lower temperatures will cause a temporary increase in viscosity and difficulty in spraying may be experienced.
  • Higher temperatures will shorten the shelf life of this product. Stir well, do not thin.
  • CP-124 adhesive is manufactured with volatile, flammable solvents.
  • Do not apply or use near open fire or flames and do not use near welding operations or where sparking is possible.
  • Keep the container tightly closed when not in use. Use only in well ventilated areas. Avoid prolonged breathing of vapors or repeated contact with skin.

Condition of Surface to Be Coated:

  • CP-124 adhesive may be applied over almost any type of substrate. It is advisable that metal surfaces be as oil free as possible.
  • No primer is required over galvanized steel or aluminum to gain maximum adhesion. Do not apply over wet or damp surfaces as the adhesion will be affected.
  • The solvents in this adhesive might attack certain plastic foams, films, or laminates.
  • The user should determine by prior test that this adhesive may be used with a specific material, and under the application conditions which exist.

Application:

  • CP-124 adhesive is designed for use with low pressure spray equipment available from many different manufacturers.
  • The types and model numbers of units suggested herein do not imply endorsement of any one unit, nor assurance of their applicability under the user’s requirements.

Hints for Success:

  • All material hoses should be nylon or PVC lined. Any packings and glands that come in contact with the adhesive should be made of Teflon®.
  • When spraying, trigger the spray gun at the end of each pass. This helps eliminate clogging or adhesive buildup at tip. Hold gun perpendicular to, and about 12" (30 cm) away from the surface to be sprayed.
  • A speckled pattern gives the most effective bond. This is not a paint - do not try to completely cover the surface.
  • Place the insulation into the adhesive while it is still wet - do not allow it to dry too much or an insufficient bond will result.
  • Too much adhesive can be as bad as not enough adhesive. If the speckles are too small, it means that the atomizing pressure is too high and should be cut back (the adhesive will also dry too quickly if this is the case).
