Cool Cover™ TPO Edge Sealant is designed to seal the exposed edges of TPO membrane roof system splices, T-joints, step downs, tie-ins, termination bars and general flashing details. Utilizing the provided patented feathering tip, Cool Cover™ TPO Edge Sealant can be leveled as applied removing the need for post-application sealant tooling. TPO Edge Sealant is an important finishing detail that functions to protect seam edges from freeze-thaw interactions and extends the life of an installlled TPO waterproofing system.
- Application Methods
Application
- Prior to application insure that all seams and/or flashings are properly installlled according to TPO roof system manufacturer’s guidelines. Cool Cover™ TPO Edge Sealant is not intended to repair a structurally unsound seam.
- Cut nozzle tube for desired bead size. Place patented feathering tip over cut nozzle prior to installing cartridge into caulking gun.
- Gun ¼” (6.4mm) size bead of Cool Cover™ TPO Edge Sealant along the exposed edge of the membrane seam splice of flashing detail. Note: for best results prime exposed edge receiving sealant with Millennium Single-Ply Primer or Millennium Primer 240 prior to sealant application.
- No tooling of installed sealant is necessary if feathering tip is used. If feathering tip is not used, tool the sealant. Tool the sealant bead so the high point is above the offset of the splice and the edges are feathered onto the deck.
- Taped membrane and flashing seams must be allowed to age at least 2 hours before Cool Cover™ TPO Edge Sealant is installed. This insures any residual solvent from tape primer has been removed. Refer to TPO roof system manufacturer’s guidelines for additional recommendations. Sealant will remain tacky up to 1 hour and will require up to 3-4 days to fully cure.
Surface Preparation
All work surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dirt, dust, debris, oils, un-adhered coatings, deteriorated membrane and other contaminants that may result in a surface that is not sound or is uneven. If necessary, clean the surface to receive cover with an approved TPO membrane cleaner.
- Limitations
- Not to be used as a splicing cement between TPO or EPDM membranes.
- Talc, dust, oil, ice, snow, or wet conditions inhibit good adhesion. Clean and dry surfaces are necessary for proper Installation of this product.
- Coverage
Coverage rate will be approximately 20 - 22 lineal feet (6.0 - 6.7 m).
